Open Source Workshop

CSE 3rd seniors hosted a workshop on open source systems on Saturday (29/9/19). The workshop, meant for 2nd-year students (mainly of ECE and CSE branches), attempted to teach  the juniors a bit about how open-source platforms worked. It also provided some basic information on GitHub, and also answered questions of GSoC(Google Summer of Code).  This marks another step in a great initiative taken by the third year seniors. This marks the latest of a string of workshops h osted by the seniors. They've provided much-needed information to juniors regarding numerous topics such as competitive coding, open-source platforms, internships etc. Such initiatives help juniors become better programmers, and also helps in their placements. This is extremely vital as the coding culture in our college isn't the best, and a lot of juniors simply lack the knowledge. They don't know much about the field,  and thus don't know how to improve, and what things to focus on. This initiative fr

Mr. K. Prasanth Kumar, and his Intelligent Multi-Tasking Robot

Image
NIT Jalandhar is home to many students pursuing different fields. Our students always strive towards perfection, and try their best. One such student has recently done something amazing.  Mr. K. Prasanth Kumar, a post graduate student in our college, has designed an intelligent multi-tasking robot. What makes the robot even more amazing? It is based on Origami. The robot contains special wheels that are based on Origami, and are made from plastic and cloth. They require no pre ssure to function, and also allow the robot to traverse muddy terrain. The robot can also flatten itself to just an inch thick, and widen up to four inches thick thanks to the wheels. It took Prasanth around six months to completely design and implement this project. The robot can be used to perform many activities such as: surveillance in emergency situations which may contain debris (such as earthquakes), agricultural applications, and even space related applications. Here is what Dr. K. S. Nagla, the head of t
